Tree Plantation

Trees enrich us with two important factors; food and oxygen. Living organisms can not survive without food and oxygen. Trees are an essential part of our communities. Trees create a peaceful, aesthetically pleasing environment. Trees bring natural elements and wildlife habitats into urban settings which increase our life quality.

How trees are beneficial to our environment?
  • Trees provide oxygen, improve air quality, and clean air.
  • Trees conserve water and prevent soil erosion.
  • Moderating effect of the sun, rain, and wind by trees can control the climate.
  • Trees reduce the effect of the greenhouse effect, storm and heavy rainfall.
  • This helps the groundwater supply recharge, prevents the transport of chemicals into streams and prevents flooding.
  • Fallen leaves make excellent compost that enriches the soil.

Deforestation spoils the soil and trees of the earth which directly impact the atmosphere of the earth. People cut trees and build factories, domestic and commercial buildings to meet the requirement of increasing population. Is it a proper solution to our problems?

Some Facts in India
  •  Approximately 45% of India’s land is degraded primarily due to deforestation, unsustainable agricultural practices, mining, and excessive groundwater extraction. More than 2/3rds of this can be regenerated.
  • India has the 10th largest forest cover in the world at 68 million hectares. The government’s National Action Plan on climate change involves expanding forest cover from the current 23% to 33% of India’s territory, and to afforest 6 million hectares of degraded forest land.
  • India has rich biodiversity – more than 45,000 plant and 91,000 animal species. However, there are rapid loss trends – 10% flora and fauna are on the threatened list and many are on the verge of extinction.
  • Cutting down trees and deforestation lead to major problems of the greenhouse effect and global warming, acid rain, and many more environmental issues. Mangalam Welfare Foundation takes the initiative to implement “Go Green” activities.
  • Globally, forest cowl is common fraction but what it once was and international deforestation continues at eighteen million hectares p.a. This indiscriminate felling of trees has to be undertaken on an oversized scale to reverse the unwell effects of deforestation and restore the ecological balance.
